During his visit to Ankara from 19-20/11/2004, the delegation of the Baath Arab Socialist Party headed by comrade Abdullah Al-Ahmar the assistant secretary-general of the party, held talks with senior officials in the ruling AK party (justice and development party) and in the Turkish government. Comrade Al-Ahmar and the delegation accompanying him met the Turkish Prime Minister Rajab Taiyb Ardogan, the president of parliament Polent Arng, foreign minister, minister of communications, Home Secretary and a delegation of the Turkish-Syrian Parliamentary friendship Society.
The cooperation and friendship relations between the two peoples and neighboring countries Syria and Turkey and the ways to consolidate the historical, cultural and social ties that combine the people of the two counties, were discussed during the meetings. The Turkish officials expressed their appreciation to Syria and confirmed the necessity of consolidating the relations with her in all different fields.
They also maintained that the visit of His Excellency President Bashar Al-Assad to Turkey formed a starting base for new relations and opened vast horizons to promote the cooperation and joint action between the two neighboring countries for the interest of the two peoples. It also established basis for cooperation and coordination in order to face the developments in the region in such a way that achieves and complies with the expectations of the peoples in the two friendly countries and their aspirations to achieve in the region just and comprehensive peace that ends the occupation, tension and wars and establishes means of dialogue to solve the existing problems.
The talk during the meetings revolved around the developments in the region, especially the situation in Iraq and the Palestinian lands, and the consequences they reflect on the region security and the stability of its countries.
A party and political talks session was also held between the delegation of the Baath Arab Socialist Party headed by the assistant secretary-general of the party and the delegation of the AK Party (Turkish justice and development party) headed by Dankir Mirfrat the party vice-president for political affairs.
Views were exchanged during the talks about the relations between the two parties and how to activate them. Both sides expressed their satisfaction of the steps made to implement the agreement, which was signed between the two parties in Damascus, and considered new proposals that promote cooperation and exchanging experiences between them. They emphasized the necessity of the two parties role in their own countries to motivate and stimulate the governmental and people powers and activities to elevate the bilateral cooperation between the two countries to higher and more spacious levels which express the aspirations of the people of the two neighboring countries.
The delegations of both parties exchanged views about the regional and international situations and developments, especially the consequences of the situation in Iraq, the chaos and lack of security and stability it suffers due to the occupation and the dangers of this situation on the unity and future of Iraq and the region as a whole. They confirmed the invariables from which each party and country starts to treat the situation in order to help the Iraqi people to end the occupation and freely decide their destiny without any foreign intervention. They also focused on the importance of the neighboring countries` role in this concern.
The delegations talked about the sufferance of the Palestinian people due to the continued Israeli aggression, viewed the tense situation in the region due to the peace process stoppage and confirmed the importance of continuing the work for establishing just and comprehensive peace in the region on the basis of the international legitimacy and land for peace principle and for ending the Israeli occupation to the Arab land in Palestine, Al-Golan and some parts of the Lebanese lands. Thus, the Palestinian people could recover their legitimate rights, placed at the head establishing their independent state and secure security, stability and prosperity in the region.
Both sides confirmed the importance of cooperation and coordination between the two parties and countries for a regional cooperation which is based on dialogue and cooperation to solve the problems that face the countries of the region and work for developing them.
