Damascus embraces the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions Federation
On 18/12/2004, a celebration was held at Sahara tourist complex under the auspices of His Excellency president Bashar Al-Assad on opening the deliberations of the eleventh General Conference of the International Federation of Arab Trade Unions. Comrade Soliaman Kaddah, the regional assistant secretary of the party, represented His Excellency the President. The Opening was attended by a number of members in the Regional and National Leaderships of the party, members in the central committee of the National Progressive Front, ministers, heads of people and trade organizations, representatives of international, national and regional foreign union federations, Arab and international labor organizations, Arab league and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Syria.

Comrade Dr. Soliman Kaddah delivered a speech saying: "Damascus who embraces the deliberations of the conference, highly appreciates your deep-rooted struggle and memorable stands towards national causes, unifying the word and closing ranks to defend Arab rights".

The conference elected comrade Dr. Mohammad Shabban Azoz, head of the General Federation of Trade unions in Syria vice- president of the central council of the international Federation of Arab Trade Unions, as the chairman of the conference.

The conference also elected brother Haidar Ibrahim, head of the General Federation of Palestine workers, as the vice-chairman and brother Hasan Hammam , secretary-general of the General Federation of Arab trade Unions, as the rapporteur of the conference. The conference formed eight committees to facilitate its work and achieve a vaster participation in drafting the resolutions of the conference and the future trends.

On the margin of the conference deliberations, the working women committee in the International Federation held a symposium about "The unorganized economy and its impacts on the working women".
