Comrade Abdullah Al-Ahmar, assistant secretary-general of the Baath party, discussed with Deliberto the relations between the Baath and the Italian communists
In the morning of 2/1/2005, Comrade Abdullah Al-Ahmar, assistant secretary-general of the Baath Arab Socialist Party, exchanged views with Mr. Oliviero Deliberto, secretary-general of Italian Communists party, about the relations between the two parties and the issues of common interest.

The talk during the meeting revolved around the situation in the region and the consequences of the events that are taking place in Iraq and the Palestinian territories on the security of the countries and peoples of the region. Deliberto expressed the importance of achieving just and comprehensive peace in the region and the necessity of putting an end to the aggression against the Palestinian people and the occupation of Iraq as well as rejecting aggression, hegemony and wars.

He confirmed his party support and backing to Syria stands and her efforts to achieve the just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the international legitimacy resolutions in such a way that ends the Israeli occupation of the Arab lands in Palestine, Golan and the Lebanese Shabba Farms and restores the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

He also emphasized the necessity that the Iraqi people restore their sovereignty and independence as well as decide their self determination freely without any foreign intervention. He said that Italy and the European Union could play an effective role in establishing peace in the region.

Furthermore, on the occasion of the New Year, comrade Al-Ahmar received a telegram from Mr. Lucien Bitterlin, head of French-Arab solidarity society, in which he conveyed his compliments and best regards to the Baath Arab Socialist party and Syria and expressed the hope in achieving the just and comprehensive peace in the region asserting the necessity of consolidating the French-Arab friendship relationships.
