On 12/ 6/2007Assistant Secretary General of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Abdullah al-Ahmar met the Secretary General of the Italian Communist Party Oliviero Diliberto.
Al-Ahmar and Dilberto discussed means of enhancing relations between the Italian Communist Party and al-Baath Arab Socialist Party, as well as between the two countries. They also discussed current regional developments. He also made a review of the stances of the Baath party regarding the overall developments ,pointing out to the attempts of the forces of hegemony to target Syria's steadfastness under the motto of combating terrorism.
He reviewed also Syria's achievements in the framework of the economic development and the increase of the growth rates , and GNP that have given strength to the national decision in the face of the various challenges . called the occupation forces to withdraw from Iraq, stressing the need to foil attempts aiming at dividing Iraq and isolating it from its Arab surrounding.
Dilberto expressed his appreciation of Syria's stances and the courageous and wise leadership of President Bashar al-Assad. He also congratulated the Syrian people on the reelection of President al-Assad, affirming the importance of his leadership in improving Syria's position and political role in the region and the world.
The meeting was attended by dr. George Sadqnee member of national leadership and the accompanying Italian delegation
