On 9/ 1/ 2007 Member of the Regional Leadership of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Dr. Haitham Satayhi discussed with First Secretary of the Socialist party of Catalonia, Spain, MP Miguel Estaliornis and the accompanying delegation means of enhancing relations between the two parties for the interest of the two friendly countries , peace and stability in the Middle East.
Both sides also reviewed the situations in the region and the growing current crises and conflicts because of the ignorance of facts and the absence of objective visions in understanding the essence of the problems in the region.
Dr. Satayhi indicated that Syria had already warned against the current dangerous repercussions of the occupation of Iraq as seen in the great failure of the American administration there and the consequences on Iraq and the region as a whole.
He also pointed out to the important role of Spain in making rapprochement in the points of view with some European parties and in clarifying Syria's stances.
The visiting party official stressed that no just and comprehensive peace could be established in the region without Syria.
He also rejected all attempts to isolate Syria and putting pressures on the country, and confirmed on the importance of exerting all efforts especially the European Union to play an active role to find resolution in the region which can achieve mass peace and stability in the middle east and the world.
Both sides, called for exchanging bilateral visits and boosting communication between parties.
