The WPK roots go back to the "Anti- Imperialism Coalition", founded by Kim IL Song in 17 October 1926, within the framework of seeking ways for liberating Korea and for its independence from the Japanese occupation

  1.

After liberation, Kim IL Song produced the idea of founding a united party. Its core was composed of communists in and outside Korea. In 10.10.1945, a foundation Congress convened and declared the foundation of the Korean Communist Party. It decided to solidify the political line and the organizational unity. According to, the Northern Bureau of the Korean Communist Party was formed on 13 October and was named the communist party in North Korea in April 1946; this party was merged with the New Democratic Party in August 1946 under the name: the Labor Party of the North Korea. On 30 June 1949 the two Labor Parties of the North and South merged in to the Korean Labor Party, and the 10th October 1945 became the foundation day of the Korean Labor Party.

Kim IL Song led the party since 1946 until his death in 1994. From 1994 until 1997, the party had no General Secretary, officially. Then Kim Jong Il became the General Secretary of the party.

The WPK Ideology:

Zotche is the main ideology of the party. Kim IL Song summarized its basic principles in his speech in 1965 as "for the Socialist Building and the South Korea Revolution in the people Democratic of Korea" in the following three principles: Independence in politics, Self-Sufficiency in economy, Self Defense in the National Defense.
